Is it true that flavoured cigars are illegal for sale in Canada after July 2010?

No!  The passage of Bill C-32 in Canada has created the false impression that it will become illegal to sell flavoured cigars.

What C-32 actually did was (a) create a specific definition of what constituted a “little cigar”, and (b) established restrictions on flavours and pack sizes for products that fell into that category.

That government has defined a “little cigar” as any product that (a) weighs 1.4 grams or less and (b) utilizes a “cigarette” filter.

Products defined as “little cigars” on the basis of the above criteria can no longer be sold in flavoured formats after July 6, 2010.  Non-flavoured “little cigars” can still be sold in transaction amounts of 20 or more.

However, products that weigh more than 1.4 grams and do not use a cigarette filter are not classified as “little cigars” and are therefore not subject to any restrictions on flavours or pack sizes.
